STATEMENT

My story and that of my works begins with the Afro-Caribbean heritage received from my father and the Andean heritage from my mother. In our family, we have always experienced magic as if it were normal in reality.

It is MAGICAL REALISM: When you enter this timeless reality to your world, you experience a magical universe. When you get out of it, it helps you to have a clearer and more serene vision of your existence and you will be able to modify it.

Perhaps, if you have read a book by Gabriel García Márquez, you have smelled the guava or you have heard a fantastic fable, you can understand it.

This is my first MISSION, to offer a magical object, a magical installation that gives you GOOD ENERGY, a GOOD FEELING.

I capture the colors I have seen and use them as I feel them, using high contrast colors and humid tones like those of the Amazon jungle or salty tones of the Mediterranean coast, my second home. I put in them my good vibration and the happy nostalgia of remote places.

So, this is my second MISSION, to stimulate positive feelings through colors and shapes, it seems simple and obvious, but we have forgotten it, the things that surround us influence OUR WAY OF LIVING BETTER.

*As for the sculptural series “Sea Urchin” and “Sea Flowers”, which evoke the creatures of nature, they seem like an easy imitation of it, but it is my personal and childish interpretation of superstition and the magic of the world natural.

*Regarding hanging and translucent installations such as “Wedding cloak”, “Luna” or “Mappa Celeste”; I tell you: it is my seamstress soul, they are cloaks made up of thousands of porcelain sheets, made to be touched, heard and seen. They recall the magical virtue of feathers used in the dresses and I express it as an intermediate between tradition and modernity.

*I look for the light in the porcelain body, I look for the “world-creating energy”, that is “Floating Worlds”, my recent work. Compositions of translucent objects such as vessels, cups, chalices, fruits, insects.

I put these translucent pieces in “Caravaggiesca” scenography, taking care of lights and shadows. I love the attention to detail, I love the symbolism of Flemish painting, I love the pre-Columbian miniaturist codes, I love the gothic miniaturist manuscripts and I play with the compositions as in the Spanish “Bodegón”.

These paintings called “Bodegones” hung on the walls of my grandmother’s house… I spent hours sitting on the old wooden floor studying every detail.

My third MISSION: Take your time to appreciate details of beautiful things, there are hidden stories there, it will be YOUR MOMENT OF CLARITY, HARMONY AND PEACE.

For her, creating pieces is a process that represents a journey that holds a sacred dimension.
